Dr_Chad answered Friday January 20 2006, 4:33 pm: There is an over-the-counter medicine called meclizine which is an antiemetic that acts on the area in your brain responsible for regulating nausea. It goes by the brand name "Dramamine II". Don't confuse it with the original Dramamine.
A word of warning though: as unpleasant as puking is, it has an important purpose--ridding your stomach of toxins. So, if you haven't puked yet, you might want to wait until you've done so a few times, and then if you still feel nauseous, take the meclizine.
pequenoalmoco answered Friday January 20 2006, 11:21 am: chew on candied/pickled ginger - you can buy this in a jar, in syrup, or sometimes in a tub, with the little pieces coated in sugar. In the supermarket, it might be in the preserves, the cake decorating, or the dried fruit sections. [ pequenoalmoco's advice column | Ask pequenoalmoco A Question ]
TheOldOne answered Friday January 20 2006, 8:55 am: Drinking mint tea may help. So may sucking on a mint, preferably a strong one. But the most effective remedy I know is Pepto-Bismol. It may not work for everyone, or in every case, but there are times that it works like magic for nausea.
Drinking de-fizzed coke or ginger ale sometimes helps, too - stir it until most of the bubbles are gone. I don't know if sugar-free sodas will work as well.
If you start feeling extra sick, try to keep breathing. Holding your breath is a natural response, but it's the first step in vomiting. Try to take long, slow, deep breaths from your belly.
Try to stay hydrated; drink as much water as you're comfortable with. And go to the bathroom often.
