My bf lives out of state and he is coming to see me for valentines day. i am taking him dancing and i already have this very cute dress. I tried to scrunch my hair... which is what i want to do for valentines day but my hair wont stay. It is naturally straight and wont hold a curl no matter what. I have tried hairspray, gel and mousse. any ideas on how to get my hair to hold without getting a perm or going to a salon? Any particular products that work for you? I really want to scrunch my hair but it isnt holding. It will hold for about 1 minute then it will straighten back out.
Get some sort of curling or volumizing shampoo and conditioner. When you get out of the shower, DONT BRUSH YOUR HAIR. Its very important. You can brush your hair while in the shower, but as soon as the waters off, no more brushing. It will take out all of the clumpiness that was added by the shower, and it will look scraggly and frizzy. Then bend over and scrunch your hair with your head upside down. Take Aquage transforming paste and put one squeeze in your hand. Add about a quarter sized amount of Aquage defining gel to your hand. Rub your hands together to mix and get the mix on both hands. Then flip over and scrunch again. If your blowdryer has a diffuser, then blow dry with that. Take your blowdryer and point up, drying under your hair, rather than above your head pointing down. It will give it more volume that way. You can also scrunch your hair to your head, pin or clip it in place, and then blowdry. After your done, spray with hairspray. Rusk Weightless Plus is best.
When youre all done, you could take a 3/4 to 1 inch curling iron and curl a few random strands.
These products I speak of are salon products, but you can order them online for cheaper. Just google them. Im sure you could substitute products though.. Not sure.

I would give yourself a good hour in the morning. (No, it doesn't take an hour. You need that hour for it to start drying) You wet your clean hair, don't dry it, but make sure it's not dripping wet, brush it down in the part that you want it in, and put in a fairly good glob of mousse in your hair because your hair kinda has to be a little crunchy. Samy Mucho Mousse will work great. To put in the mouse, you put a glob in the center of your palm, rub your hands together, and ease it out of your hand applying with your fingers, NOT YOUR PALM! You want your hair to be locky, not one solid thing. Once the mousse is in, put three mini messy buns in your head (one on the left and right side and one in the back) and make sure the buns are as close to your part as possible. Leave the buns in for an hour and you should be good. DO NOT BRUSH YOUR HAIR AFTER THE MOUSSE IS IN YOUR HAIR! IF YOU BRUSH CURLS, IT'LL TOTALLY RUIN THEM! BL0NDExAMBiiTii0N answered Sunday January 8 2006, 5:59 pm: okayyy well what you could do it towel dry it so it's damp but not like soaking. get the knots out (you can use your fingers or a comb) and then like spray gel all over your hair. and make like little messy buns .. haha i don't know how to explain it but take a chunk of your hair, put gel in it, scrunch that little section and clip it to your head. do that all over your head and maybe put some hair spray in it when you're done. take them out and it should be scrunched. sometimes i wear my hair in a messy bun and i use gel. so i put my hair in a ponytail, scrunch the ponytail and tie it up like that. when i take it out, it's really scrunched so i'm thinking if you do that all over your head, it will look cute =] hair spray helps ♥. sorry if it's not the best answerr! i triedd = ♥ [ BL0NDExAMBiiTii0N's advice column | Ask BL0NDExAMBiiTii0N A Question ]
