I have plenty of friends who have deferred enrollment for a year to study abroad or work or just travel. You need to get it cleared through the dean or admissions but most schools will allow you with proper documentation.

A lot of colleges all you to wait a year before attending. After you get accepted, ask your college about deferring enrollment for a year. You will probably have to give a reason -- wanting to work is a good reason, for example. A college will NOT defer admission so you can enroll somewhere else for a year, though.

As for whether it's a good idea, that depends I think on what you're planning on doing during your time off. Only you can make that decision.

depends if you are still studying hard between that year, because if you are not then you are most likely going to forget what you have learned. I recomend going when you graduate, so you can keep your mind fresh

You may think that taking a break is a good idea; to relax after highschool. but once you have stopped going to school for one entire year, your motivation tends to slip and you may not think the same way about your career then than you do now. colleges would prefer for you to attend their college when you register. they are not going to wait around for someone to come to school, when they may have someonelse attend in yur place before you come back.
Hope to have Helped Hun♥_

No. You can wait a year, then apply and get accepted and go. But if you get accepted and then don't enroll, you have to start from square one and apply again.

I'm British, so I'm not exactly sure what the situation is in the U.S., but I would be quite surprised if it was not also possible to take a 'gap year' as we call it here in Blighty. I would strongly advise you to take one- I didn't , and I heartily regret my decision. I would also advise doing some kind of paid work, as independently as possible, as it will help you to buid the people skills which are so neccesary to enjoy university. Good luck!
