hey. Im thirteen and i have this friend who is a boy. Hes like my best friend and we have been best friends for about 2 years. the thing is that i think that i like him. I don't know what to do. If i tell him im afraid how he will react due to the fact that i have dropped no hints and he thinks we are only friends. Also im really afriad on how this will affect our friendship because i don't know what i would do without him. i know this is tough but i really need help on this one!
I was really good friends with this guy, James for about four years. And we were just friends, I remember going to dinner at 3 in the mornings before school. We'd run in the snow and go up to the cabins. Anyhow there was no romance - or anything like it between us. I guess that's what triggered the thought of relationships being more than friends. Due to the fact that there was nothing physical between us, I wanted that. You'd have you attention with the other guy friends, and him and I were so close. I'd talk and he'd actually listen. I thought that was it. So we eventually discussed it and came to realization that we both wanted each other. I can't tell you how hard that was telling him. Anyhow we went out and our friends made bets on how far we'd make it. It only lasted two months. You know how people say dating or having you friend as a boyfriend can affect the friendship you once had? Well, maybe for some people that has never happened, and they are lucky. But I find that statement very true. It happens. We got in a fight, a big fight. He wasn't the same guy he was and the way he acted towards me was different than what we had as friendship. The results were brutal. And to this day, I remember how much it hurt to go through that. I lost one of my best friends that day. As much as we tried to fake it, the friendship was never the same, and eventually faded away - into nothing.
I'm not telling you NOT try and see how this works. I believe that everything has to be tried once in order to get the best possible decision. Anyhow, I want you to know that what most people think is reality, simply is not. In English - people judge too quickly. They assume that it will work out, everything will be okay. but they have their doubts. If you are going to attempt this, list all the things you enjoy about your friendship with him. Now think back about what would happen if some of those changed. How would it affect you, him, and your overall friendship? Would you be willing to risk your friendship with him?
If you want to ask him, just do it. There is no other way. By asking him online or on the phone - that's kind of cold-hearted I think. Why? Because it would be so much meaningful asking him in person. By asking him through other sources, you'd just be implying that you can't look him in the eyes telling him you like him and want to become more than just friends. He would appreciate it more if you just said it personally. He's probably be impressed, and hey, that definitely scores you some points!
hco_babe answered Tuesday December 6 2005, 8:41 pm: tell him how you feel! he might feel the same way, and doesn't want to tell you either. if he likes you only as a friend, just continue on like normal and pretend nothing happened. he might start developing feelings for you once you tell him. if he's a good enough friend, he won't care whether you like him even when the two of you are only friends. Looking4princecharming answered Tuesday December 6 2005, 8:40 pm: Well its common to have feelings with your best friend(boy) especially if you've known them for a really long time. I would just confront him that your having feelings towards him and maybe he likes you too. But if you keep it to yourself he will notice that there is something that is wrong so the best thing would be is to tell him. Hope I helped.
