Big Words

Question Posted Monday November 28 2005, 1:44 pm

I would like some big words and phrases to replace little words. For example, articulate = smart. I would like these words for in the future to be used in school projects and to impress university colleges. So any big words would be good.

Go to dictionary.com and select the "thesaurus" option. That will help out a lot! Also, on Microsoft Word, you can right click on a word and click thesaurus. It'll give you a few words. But be sure to look them back up in the dictionary, because the word might be slightly different and change the entire meaning of your sentence!

If you want to know "smart" words, yeah thesauri and thesaurus.com are really good rescources. Some "smart" phrases I know are as follows:

"You are beginning to press upon my nueral transmitters in a deleterious manner"
(you're getting on my nerves)

"I beg to differ, on the contrary..."
(I think you're wrong, this is how it really is..."

and yea, i had more but i forget them.

p.s. the one person was right, articulate doesn't translate to smart

Actually articulate doesn't really mean smart. It's more like well-spoken and expressing yourself clearly and effectively. I'm not nitpicking you, but I know from experience that teachers and college admissions officers will notice that.

For other words (since I don't really know exactly which ones you're looking for), check the thesaurus if you have one handy. If you don't have one, there is a good one online at the link below. Good luck.
