There is a BIG difference in a guy being attracted to you versus LIKING you! I've seen a lot of girls hurt by not recognizing the difference!
When a guy LIKES you, he will want to get to know you (not jut be ALONE with you) and he will want to do things for you that make you happy.
It could be a simple as a smile, a note, a single flower, a thoughtful phone call, etc.
A guy likes you when he pays only YOU attention even when there are other girls around.
Beware of the guy that doesn't do any of those things but says things like "you're really hot."
Trust me - Ignore his WORDS and observe his ACTIONS.

I think you should try to get to know him a little better first. Try hanging out with him some more and ask for his number. Test the water first and try to see whether he is interested or not.
If you feel that he is interested, then by all means ask him out. If you are too shy to ask him yourself, then perhaps you could get a friend to do it for you. If he says no, then don't feel awkward about it...perhaps a good friendship can come out of it :)
