Question Posted Saturday November 12 2005, 3:56 pm
I'm going to participate in a Speak Out program at my school, where I have to give a speech. We have to pick a topic - any - of our choice to talk about, three minutes or so tops. Well I need to give in a topic by tomorrow or after tomorrow maximum, and so far my teacher has advised me to talk about something I know from personal experience. So far, I could only think of depression: why do kids fall in to it, and how can it be stopped, the abuse of drugs, and thats it, but thats not personal experience. I was depressed for around a year, but I was in seventh grade and its unpleasnt to think of it. im a sophmore now, but ANYWAY, does anyone have any ideas for important topics, something that would get me picked? regardless of personal experience and such. This is really urgent and I really appreiciate good, well thought out answers.
Thank you. I'm fifteen and a sophomore, by the way, for those who didnt catch that the first time.

- Depression
- Child abuse/rape
- Rape in general
- Fox hunting/general animal hunting/animal cruelty
- Love and how the use of it is mis-used
- Bullying
It's amazing what a simple Google search can find. ;)
Also, a topic doesn't necessarily have to happen directly to you for it to be a personal experience. For example, if you were doing terrorism, just because you weren't in New York City on 9/11 does not mean that event did not personally affect you.

Number 1 2 and 3 is something from my life :( my mother is dead now but she was a drug user. My father was a dead-beat. And I had to live with my grandmother until she got sick. I got awards for writing about my life. I love talking to others about this. Like an avocator (sp) lol
Being children of drug users, mother selling child for drugs.
Children living with their grandparent because their parents are either drug users or dead-beats
Grand-parents busting their ASSES taking care of other people's children.
Children having sex and getting pregnant in their teen years
Kids eating theirselves to sleep because of problems at school
Cutting, how kids fall into it
Peer pressure, how it influences our generation
School uniforms, the reasons for it
How celebrites influence the young generation to do things.
How rappers are fake and influence kids to do drugs
How the media convinces young girls to come to school dressed as brittany spears LOL
Bullies and how they influence the good kids to do bad things
