Mackenzie answered Sunday November 13 2005, 11:04 pm: Not to come across as rude, but neglecting to eat is NOT the way to go about this. Do you know how much damage that will do to your body? There are better routes to take, trust me. If you honestly feel like you're in trouble with this, I think you should bring it up with a trusted adult. Anorexia Nervosa is not something to toy around with. It's a serious and fatal condition.
Now, if you're willing to take the healthy approach at this weight loss thing, we'll start out with the obvious: exercise.
A few good activities that can simply assist in porportioning the body in it's ENTIRTY would be anything that gets the blood circulation goin', such as: jogging, jumping jacks, jumping rope, walking, and bicycle riding. Also, if you have access to a heated pool, water aerobics work like a charm!!
And if you'd like to target your tummie specifically, try doing a couple hundred sit ups or crunches. I know, I know, I know.. "a couple hundred' SEEMS like a lot, but if you break it up into sessions, it's not that difficult, really.
To tone your butt and thighs, do leg lifts. To do these, stand up straight, and slowly move your leg -ONLY YOUR LEG- backwards. Like, say you're going to kick something, but kick BARKWARDS, and DON'T BEND YOUR KNEES!! Make sense???
To tone your arms, take two dum bells [whatever weight works for you]. Put one in each arm, and stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. Bring the dum bells up to your chest with your elbows folded out [like Tarzan pounding his chest-sort of motion, ya know?] Then at a MEDIUM speed... extend your arms out to the side, and slowly bring them back in. You can do two at a time to help balance the strength build up and toning, or do one at a time if it's easier. THIS DOES CUH-RRRRAZZIIEEEEEEE AMOUNTS OF MIRCALE!!!!!!!!!! If you do it for at least 20 minutes a day you'll see a GIGANTIC difference in a week, TOPS. I do them all the time; it's fun!!
Also, providing you cut out the EXTREMELY unhealthy foods, such as WHITE bread [substitute it with wheat], cake products, ice cream, hamburgers, and soda... [if you're used to consuming A LOT of it] you can see a significant amount of weight loss after the first two weeks, alone.
As you probably already know, it's best to eat several small portions a day; but this does not mean to "starve" yourself. Say, have an apple and a piece of cheese, two hours later have a few crakers, and an hour later have one piece of wheat toast, and so on and so forth, ya know??? And those are just some snack ideas. When it comes to solid meals, you don't really have to cut out much. Just take in moderation. Little intakes of food like that gives your body time to digest it properly. You see how that's better than eating one or two huge meals a day?? Because then it would take too long to catch up, and your bodyy will not be able to burn the calories quickly enough; so it just quits, adding body fat.
Of course you must realize that weight loss takes time. I can't really say how long it will take; I suppose that differs from person to person. It really just depends on how much weight you're looking to shed. I'd say you could lose 10 to 20 pounds within the first month; that's very possible (seeing as how a good portion of that 10-20 pounds will be water weight).
You just have to stay committed, and strive to keep up the drive. Some tips: just try to keep yourself busy, and sleep as often as possible. Those things keep your mind off of food.
Sure it seems like you're giving up so much, but think about what you will be gaining if you feel better about yourself?? That's the best damned grand prize you'll EVER find.
Goodluck to you! Feel free to get ahold of me personally if you'd like any other information or opinions! I'd be happie to help where I can! :D [ Mackenzie's advice column | Ask Mackenzie A Question ]

Mishizzle answered Friday November 11 2005, 11:30 pm: My suggestion is don't do it. You wind up having the runs because you aren't getting any solids. Then you aren't getting the proper nutrition so you have to take all of these supplements. My riend broke his jaw at a football game and it had to be clamped shut. He was forced to be on a liquid diet. He always felt like he was sick and he didn't like it because all of the supplemental drinks he had to take were disgusting. Look at health books in the library or go to the book store. You can just go in there and read them so you don't have to buy it if you are embarresed about being on a diet. Just try to eat healthy. Hope I helped! [ Mishizzle's advice column | Ask Mishizzle A Question ]
