To be honest you would be best to ask a level 3 mod for the answer to this question as ultimately (with good reason) it is up to them who makes level 2 Mod.

(try posting the same ? in the moderators forum)

Well I know it took me about a year and a few months. We were all sitting in the chat, this was when A_A was still in charge. Honestly, if it was up to DN, I'm not sure if I would have become an L2, espcially because I haven't been doing as much lately. But anyway, I was the only L1 in the chat, the rest were L2 and L3, I made a comment jokingly about it, A_A checked me out a little bit (my column obviously haha) and I was promoted within an hour of that comment.

But seriously, unless one of us get demoded, I don't think there will be any new ones lately. From my memory, younggrandma was promoted to L2 shortly after I was, I honestly don't remember anyone new coming after that, but my memory isn't something I rely on.

Keep up what you're doing. I was in the top 5 of who rated the most when I was chosen, and I was here over a year, so just keep up the good luck, and maybe, just maybe, DN will be looking for some fresh blood.

I think they got one just a few days ago, actually. I counted 12, the last time I checked it was 11. Generally, you take a look and see who has rated 200 questions in the last month, and then see which of those has been here the longest. They are what I think of as the "waiting list", although there really is no set thing as that. If you are the one that has been here the longest, my guess is in about 3 months you should become one. No promises though. They are up to the admins, and the next one may not be for a good 3 years. Or, they may promote someone else using something besides that...

I am posting what Dangernerd has in the FAQ it's not just based on length of time here but the fact not everyone needs to be one right now. They have 10 and do not require more from what this says.

QUOTED FAQ

Since level II moderators can do a lot, we try to only have 10 or so at a time. If one dies, we promote a new one. To pick the new one, we look at who among the level I mods has been here the longest, then we look at their advice column, how they've rated questions, the whole bit. Since level II mods have to approve and rate every question, we only pick people who rate questions like crazy. We also only pick people who've been here a really long time, because we need to know you've got some staying power on the site.

Unlike the level I job, level II isn't something you get automatically for being your cool self, we have to need more level II mods for someone to become one. So if you don't get to be one, you shouldn't be upset.
