Weeelll....it's kind of easy. We have airplanes, trains, cars, etc. Back then people traveled by foot and ship and wagons(?).

1400: We had horses, walking, and wooden boats
2005: Cars, trains, airplanes, a mighty array of boats, spaceships, bicycles, Segways, skatebpoards, and waterskis.
Exploration:
1400: By boat or foot.
2005: By satellite, spaceship, submarine, or well trained animals?
