Swollen wrist?

Question Posted Saturday October 15 2005, 9:22 pm

This is probably a dumb question but so be it.

This evening, my left wrist is swollen on the outside, very painful to the touch, and slightly painful from movement. I don't remember falling on it, hitting it, or anything that might cause it to act this way, I honestly don't.

Has anybody ever had this happen to them/have half a clue as to what it might be? Also, is there anything I can do to reduce the pain and swelling? (Ice doesn't seem to be doing the trick)

You could have hit it sleeping or not even realize that you did something to injure it. Or maybe it's possibly a bite of some sort? I'm not sure, but I'd say if it's not better in the morning, see a doctor ASAP.

Also, this is from webmd.com. You can check these links out if you like.

Take some sort of pain medication and put ice on your wrist for about fifteen minutes.

I'm not really sure but this might help. It could be tendonitis or carpal tunnel. You get it when you do like a lot of repetive things with your hand/wrist. It'll hurt a ton to do anything. Try tylenol, ice it some more, then put like a heating thingie on it (sorry, can't remember what they're called). It'll loosen up the muscle and relieve tension. If that doesnt help, try a doctor or physical therapist. Hope i helped somewhat!!!

uh, sounds a bit on the serious side. consult a doctor. until then, take some ibuprofen to reduce swelling and for pain relief.

I would definitely get it checked. In fact, I'd advise you to go to more than one doctor. Different situation, but I hurt my knee awhile back and we went to a few different doctors but it wasn't until like the 3rd one and the 4th month after the injury that we found out what was ACTUALLY wrong with it and figured out how to stop it. You might want to ask your doctorabout getting an Xray and/or an MRI also, if turns out somethings really wrong.

Hey, my dad's a doctor so i can probably help. You might have something wrong with your bone or bloodstream, go get it checked out if it doesnt go down any in the next 24 hours!
