but thats not all actually. sometimes.. my private questions do count but thats only when there low!

Teza answered Tuesday September 13 2005, 5:42 pm: I asked something similar in a moderator discussion and they all told me it's because when your friends or anyone else asks you questions and say like "OMG, I love you sooo much, you're soo pretty!!!" They won't count because it's a compliment really and it just wouldn't really be fair. Now, I get idiots asking me normal questions like "Can you find this site for me, I'll rate you a 5?" and when I have no clue what they are asking me or if I just simply don't know they rate me a 1 or 2. I had those count but it is rating abuse. If you get asked something stupid and that isn't unfair talk to MFS or DN about it. I'm sure they would help you out. Their friends will send them messages saying OMG I HEARD YOU'RE GOING OUT WITH AMY! Is that true?? And they'll say Yes, and then they give you a 5. Now, does that sound fair to you? Sure, there are some questions that are actual QUESTIONS that need real advice, but when people use their columns as a message board, I would agree not to have private questions count on your feedback. karenR answered Tuesday September 13 2005, 9:22 am: The private questions do not count because some have friends ask questions just to get 5's.
I do believe the ratings system that counts the 1's will be revamped in the near furure sometime.
Until then there is no way to fix it. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]

Apparently there were some pretty serious abuses - people would ask their friends questions, or just talk to each other, and rate each response a "5".
I agree that it's not fair, exactly; the private questions I've answered have been some of the hardest. But that's how it is. For now, don't worry too much about your rating; if it goes so low that you lose mod status (assuming you're a moderator), and you don't think that's fair, you could always email DangerNerd.
Improbable answered Tuesday September 13 2005, 8:42 am: Well, they probably do this so a friend can't ask questions just to give you free 5's. That way, you only get rated on advice to people who post public questions. Most private questions aren't major anyways. =P Good luck. [ Improbable's advice column | Ask Improbable A Question ]
