Is there anyway for columnist to change the format of their usernames?

If you have a Paid Account, you can change usernames. Non paying accounts do not have this feature.

Nope. But if you get a a Paid account you can change your username. So i'm guessing you can change the format as well. But that's only if you have a paid account. Otherwise you can't. If you want just make a new column.
