Question Posted Saturday September 10 2005, 5:39 pm
I'm moving into a much smaller apartment at the end of the month and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to how I could make it look bigger and how could I make it look more homely since my walls will have to be white and most of my furnature (incleading comforter) is black.

Being that you lack the ability to make it colorful...you can bring in color with accessories. You can also repaint your own existing furniture to give it a pop of color. Bring in plants, flowers etc to make the room appear more full. Stay away from cluttering it though. Curtians, or cornice boards (which you can make yourself) always bring in a well needed boost of color and dimension. Throw rugs can seperate rooms, add colors, and make the home feel larger, and give it more depth. You can find them cheap if you look around. What I've done is pick one accent colour as well to brighten things up (I used a burgandy but really any colour will do, go with a light warm colour if you want to make the room feel even bigger).
Don't clutter your walls (I see fellow students do this all the time and it just makes the space so cramped) Use just a few big and clear pictures or posters. The blank space helps. Definately invest in a mirror too.

Hope i helped!! [ IveGotPinkJazzShoes's advice column | Ask IveGotPinkJazzShoes A Question ]
