white walls

Question Posted Saturday September 10 2005, 5:39 pm

I'm moving into a much smaller apartment at the end of the month and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to how I could make it look bigger and how could I make it look more homely since my walls will have to be white and most of my furnature (incleading comforter) is black.

First you should make the room appear larger with the use of mirrors. You can place them on a coffee table, or walls, anywhere you see fit. Being that you lack the ability to make it colorful...you can bring in color with accessories. You can also repaint your own existing furniture to give it a pop of color. Bring in plants, flowers etc to make the room appear more full. Stay away from cluttering it though. Curtians, or cornice boards (which you can make yourself) always bring in a well needed boost of color and dimension. Throw rugs can seperate rooms, add colors, and make the home feel larger, and give it more depth. You can find them cheap if you look around. Happy decorating from Shannyo-and I would love an update on the progress.

I actually have a very similar arrangement as I live in student housing. The contrast between black and white will open the rooms up alot for you right away.

What I've done is pick one accent colour as well to brighten things up (I used a burgandy but really any colour will do, go with a light warm colour if you want to make the room feel even bigger).

Don't clutter your walls (I see fellow students do this all the time and it just makes the space so cramped) Use just a few big and clear pictures or posters. The blank space helps. Definately invest in a mirror too.

Have fun!

well the white walls will automatically open the apartment and make it look bigger. a good colour to go with white and black is red. white and black are quite cold colours so by putting red with them it will warm the room up and make it more homely.
Hope i helped!!
