my school came up with a new dress code and it completely sucks. parents and students were kicked out of open house and kids were suspended on the first day of school!!! for example our neckline son our shirts have to make a srait line above our armpits which is REALLY high and our shirts have to come down past our belts and our pants can't touch the floor. what are some good things i can say to the administration to get them to change these outrageous rules? (*we don't have uniforms)
I understand the part about the shirts being past your belts, but the rest is ridiculous.
Alot of clothes that are the right length, size, etc. cost too much money & are extremely hard to find now & some people don`t have that kind of money to spend on new clothes. No, it`s not a 'fashion show, but you guys aren`t gonna dress like old ladies in turtle necks & sweat pants ... you should be able to wear what people your age wear. & if someone`s short, they aren`t gonna go & get jeans made special for them & spend over a hundred dollars making it so that they fit perfectly. Talk to your parents & see if they agree with you. Most likely, they will. Get them to talk to at least ten-twenty of your other friend`s parents & get them to go up to the office & talk to the principal. Tell them to explain some of the things that I did earlier in this. Parents always make more of a difference than the kids, trust me.

But present your ideas to the principal perhaps with other friends reasonably! Just go on to explain that there are some very short people in your school and it is difficult for them to buy jeans that fit them really well but are longer because they are shorter than most people their wieght. And tell them nowadays the necklines they are asking for are very difficult to find and it makes shopping complicated. Try and present it in a light that's reasonable... I'm not sure one person can make a difference in a high school/middle school.... but I'm wishing you luck! [ Mercy_x_Me's advice column | Ask Mercy_x_Me A Question ]

there's not much you can do. we have the exact same rules, and so many more. our jeans can't be "slightly destressed" like all the jeans that most people have. if there's anything that looks at all like it isn't brand new, then there has to be a freakin patch over it. and in middle school, we weren't allowed to wear FLIP FLOPS! that is unfair. your rules are pretty normal for a school district. wear a lot of t-shirts! wear skirts or capris. i'm sorry, but there really isn't much you can do to change the administration's minds. it's really wrong to suspend kids on the first day or at open house, especially if these are new rules, but they're the higher athority, unfortunately. be lucky you aren't in uniforms. a lot of texas public schools are at that stage. i'm sorry. i'm totally feeling the same way that you are.
EDIT: real t-shirts are long enough. i don't mean those dinky little see through super tight ones, i mean the actual ones with like, logos and stuff like that on them. those are supposed to be a bit big. [ xoxo_perfect1's advice column | Ask xoxo_perfect1 A Question ]
SoInToYoUx0x answered Tuesday September 6 2005, 7:07 pm: we you can do is get a petetion and make like the whole school do it and if they dont listen to you then you guys should plan out a day where EVERYONE breaks the rules and all off you gusy should talk to your familys about the dress code and maybe even your parents will join you on it and help the rules change.. because if you fight it by yourself it WONT work they wont listen to one person you need at least 100 people to make this work.. hope this helps you out and DONT EVER GIVE UP ON WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT.. good luck

Honestly don't think that it's that outrageous...shirts that cover your stomach and don't show too much isn't a bad thing. You're there to learn, not put on a fashion show. All your friends will be following these guidelines too and in the winter you can wear sweaters! As for the jeans, that sucks. I'm short and in order to have them at my shoes, my mom would have to hem them and that takes the flare away.
You could try cuffing them which, in my opion, is really cute!
