Michele answered Tuesday August 23 2005, 8:39 am: Two things you can look at. Lips and nails. A child or even an adult's lips will have a blue hue to them. Blue tint. If they are not getting enough oxygen. Our nails also, the skin under the nails will not be pink. They will be pale white and then even the nails can take on a blue tint to them. This is a DEFINITE sign of lack of oxygen in a person. These signs are easier to see in infants. Their skin is very fair and translucent. Even in afro-american children, you can check the nail beds. Anthother sign is fast paced breathing. Especially in an infant. They will have fast and shallow breathing. So if you have any or all of these symptoms, then there is a problem.
