I think you're doing them incorrectly, as well as too fast. I think you should slow down some, and take your time. Is it possible that you're doing too many and exhausting yourself??

I'll include a few links on how to do a proper crunch, just in case:

It sounds like you are doing your crunches wrong. There can be several reasons as to why you are getting headaches from doing them. These reasons might be:

Not breathing correctly. You need to make sure you are breathing in on the way down and exhaling on the way up. By holding your breath while doing crunches you put undue pressure on your blood vessels resulting in a head rush afterwards.

Not holding your head/neck in a straight position. You need to make sure that you are hold your body straight and not curving in when doing crunches. Bending of the neck over and over again can result in a headache.

Doing crunches too quickly. Crunches are suppose to be done slowly, not as fast as you possibly can, in order to have the most resistance. If you do them too quickly you are not getting the total benefit. Going too fast can also result in a seasick like feeling which might include a headache.

So, remember, do them slowly, keep your body straight and breathe. Good luck.

You may be doing them too fast and the sudden motion is causing the headache.

Also if you're doing them incorrectly, it will put a strain on your neck which will also cause a headache.

um well i used to 2. but may be your going to fast and your head is like going up and down at a fast past. also, maybe your not holding the best way for your neck/head. if you but your palms on the back of your neck with your arms on the sides, not forward or anything, it won't hurt a bit. hope i helped

Teza answered Sunday August 21 2005, 8:44 pm:
That happenes if you are going way to fast and if you dont put your head all the way down. Just do it a little slower and dont do too many at once. You'll see that its why.
