im a dancer. well work on your technique everday. fast muisic for jazz and slow for ballet and lyrical. but practice alor to get good. like leaps, turns, splits, and jumps. those are the basics to dance. do it for about an hour-hour an a half and you'll be set. hope i helped!

I have the exact same problem as you! I love dancing, but there are so few places to do it in. I solved the problem by burning a CD of my favorite dance songs (hip-hop mostly, but it's pretty eclectic) and just dancing around in my room. I think the best way to lose weight through dance is to simply work up a sweat; make sure your heart goes up a bit, but not too much, because you could hurt yourself (check online weight loss sites for info on target heart rate, warming up and things like that). Anything goes, really, but if you want some dance steps, you might tape some music videos or concerts and watch what they do and try to copy it. Or you could look online for dance steps or routines. Practice makes perfect and the more you dance, the more confident you'll get and even if you don't know any formal steps, I guarantee you'll get better - you'll just start to pick up rhythm and know how to move instinctively. My best friend commented on how well I moved even though I've never had any dance lessons; dancing alot gives you confidence and most modern music doesn't require anything fancy, just keep to the beat. But like I said, you can always see how professional dancers do it and try to pick up some steps. Some great songs to dance to are (I'm almost ashamed to say this) boy band stuff - N'sync and the like ("Girlfriend" is a great warm-up song). I love Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" and Britney Spears is always great for dancing. Have fun!

Are you sure there are no dance places? There are probably some places similar to Curves. I think they have like "jazzercise" type things you can do. You can't become a good dancer without a dance teacher, so if you can't find dance studios then maybe find a privite teacher. Dance is a great way to make you legs strong and it's great excercies for your whole body too!!

If you want one of the best things you can do, it is to go out to a video game store (Or something like that), and buy a game called "Dance Dance Revolution". I have heard of people losing 20 pound in a year through it. It is highly addicting, giving you the motivation, and it has some good songs on it, although you really concentrate mostly on the dancing. It improves your dancing as well. Just get into it, and you should be fine.
