Shut down or restart your computer, when it starts to boot up you should screen that saya Compaq, Dell, Gateway or the brand of computer you use, as soon as you see this press F8 continuously. Now you should see a black and white screen with options that differ depending on the brand of your computer.

I think you do the ctrl+alt+del trick, and then shut down ---> hibernate. Or was it standby? Whatever, the easier way is, if you have a Windows, on some keyboards (like mine) there's a little moon button between F12 and Print Screen/SySRq. Hope I helped!

You press F8 as your computer is starting up, not F11.

shut down your computer. As you restart press F11 and hold until a screen comes up. Use the arrow keys and choose safe mode. Ta dah.

If you're running XP, follow these instructions:

- Click on "Start"
- Click on "Turn Off Computer"
- Choose "Stand By" or "Hibernate"

If you're running something other than XP, it will be similar. The "safe mode" or "stand by" or "hibernate" buttons are probably near the Off / Restart buttons.
