If you went to the doctor for a pap smear, they would be able to tell if you're pregnant, right? What other things show up on the pap smear results besides if you have any kind of cancer down there?
So, a pap smear will show cancerous cells, bacterial infections, yeast infections, and sometimes pregnancy (in the later stages; only because of the positioning of the cervix). Pap smears DO NOT show STDs. Having a pap does not test you for STDs at all. It also does not "test" for pregnancy--you must have a blood or urine test done for that, especially in the early stages.
The only time a pap smear may show STDs is if there are visible sores to the naked eye or if you have contracted a strain of HPV. HPV will mutate cells and the test will come back abnormal. Since HPV is a form of an STD then I suppose you could say it's a test for that particular STD but it isn't going to show up if, say, you have AIDs.
Pap smears will show pregnancy in the later stages when the cervix has went through some changes in positioning, mostly. This is done simply a visual exam though so I would hardly call it a pap smear testing for pregnancy since no cells would need to be scraped for such a "test." So, no, a pap smear does not test for pregnancy but it may show later pregnancy signs. [ Peeps's advice column | Ask Peeps A Question ]
