i have had a sugar glider for three weeks now and she still won't let me hold her. i've tried holding a walnut on my hand but she just steals the walnut and runs off. i tried to hold her while she was occupied with her nut but she kinda attacked me. i don't want her to be unsocialized because i don't think i'll get the full enjoyment out of her. Please help me. She's the cutest thing and when you look into her big buggy eyes you just want to hug her. oh yeah, she's a little under a year old if that helps

You have to basicly earn her trust.Firts just start little by putting you hand in the cage and feeding, watering, and beding her like you would normaly do. (But pay no attention to her) You sort of have to act like she isnt there so that she gets that your not there to hurt her. If that doesn't earn her trust in 2-3 weeks. Then try putting her in a quiet room but were you family can pass by and talk to her that you visit regularly so that she gets used to the new suroundings and you of coarse. If that still doesnt work . Let her out regularly so that she get used to and the house in stead of being cooped up in a cage and then trying to be handled by a huge thing. I hope I was a help.

Eventually she will come to people for food. Then someone will pet her, and she'll eventually realize she likes it. She will. Say, where can I get a sugar glider? ;) [ Helpful's advice column | Ask Helpful A Question ]
EvilOompa answered Wednesday August 3 2005, 4:44 pm: put ur hand in her cage and pet her so she gets used to your smell and starts associating that smell with good things. and more walnuts wouldnt hurt either! [ EvilOompa's advice column | Ask EvilOompa A Question ]
advicegurl714 answered Wednesday August 3 2005, 3:25 pm: i have 2 sugar gliders a male and female!! when i first got them the male would jump and hang wit you but the female was the mean one she attacked me too.. But i bought a hamster ball and put her in it when she didn't know it so she wouldn't have time to attack and close it and let her go around and do that a few days a week and i'm sure she will start to like you if not you might wanna take her homes and toys out for a little and put gloves on and pet her gently a couple times a day for about a month till she gets use to you!! Xo_Ashie_oX answered Tuesday August 2 2005, 4:56 pm: okay well first off, sugar gliders are somewhat wild animals... i mean when you walk on the street and see a rabbit, its not gonna come running to you just bc you have a carrot in your hand... so u have to get her adjusted to you first... you have to let her know you dont want to harm her in anyway, as soon as she realizes that she probably wont be as shy... but my brother he made a pouch for his... its like out of felt but if you put her in that you can hold em, cuddle em, or w/e and they wont try to excape b/c they feel safe in that pouch... soo if you dont already have one of those make it... and then once she learns youre harmless, she should get pretty attached!! hope i helped!!
