Well im a beginner in field hockey and i just recently took a camp, and am hoping to try out for the team next year at school... and I need a stick so i was wondering for those who have played what they would recommend; for instance what brands that are good and which to avoid. Also since i am a beginner i dont want to spend like 200$ on a stick so make it reasonable like under 60$.

If you're absolutely brand new to the sport, i would recommend STX. Once you've inproved you stick skills and become more advanced in the sport, i would buy a stick to match your ability. Brands like Gryphon and all composite sticks are for more advanced players. Composite also has a different feel on the ball than a wood stick. I would highly recommend a wood stick to begin with. www.Longstreth.com has a great selection. Personally, i would go to their store because they usually have a bigger selection and sales there, but i don't know where you live. The retail store is in PA. Also, keep in mind that unless you are 6 feet tall, you don't really need a 37' stick. I would go with 35' or 36'. A shorter stick will also keep you lower when you play, which is very good. Grays sticks are normally heavier than other brands. Beginner stick are usually $20 to about $40, while others can reach $150. Keep you eye on the lower priced ones. Also remember that the color of the stick doesn't really matter, so make your decision based more on how well you can use it. [ wrwckfhgk9408's advice column | Ask wrwckfhgk9408 A Question ]
skater_shoes_x3 answered Friday July 1 2005, 4:33 pm: well okay. i have played field hockey for like 4 years now. the sticks that cost the most are composite sticks and they are better but since you are a beginner i would recommend getting just a regular wood stick. i think that STX & Gray are good stick companies. but any stick is good if its a name brand. i would also recommend going to like Sports Authority and just measuing the size of stick you need and then ordering your real stick online because they have a bigger selection. like www.longstreth.com . if you havent heard of it, its a womens sport website and so they have a lot of field hockey stuff on it. & also dont buy a stick or any other field hockey supplies at dicks ( if you have one where you live ) because their stuff tends to get ruined easier and im not sure why. so - i hope i helped! last year i was just like you
well to get a stick i went to sports athourity and got a stick for like 30 bucks there
i kno that you don't want to spend like 200 bucks on a stick but my best friend got a really nice stick for like 125$ but the nice thing about it is that it doesn't vibrate. one thing that really sucks is when u go to hit the ball and then the vibration goes up the stick and hits ur hands it hurts really bad!
well i hope i helped

Erinn_the_bamf answered Thursday June 30 2005, 6:56 pm: Don't worry no field hockey stix costs $200. Heck, none even cost $60. Some good brands are STX and Gray (or at least I believe that's what it's called). There aren't really any brands to aviod. Both brands usually cost around $20-40. To see what stick fits you it should be around your waist. I'm sure you already know that but a few brands don't make variations in size. If you need anymore help ask me, not very many people play field hockeey but I do and have a lot of knowledge about it. I hope I helped! ♥ good luck [ Erinn_the_bamf's advice column | Ask Erinn_the_bamf A Question ]
