I'd see a vet...some vets will give advice over the phone for free, or there's a number of sites that offer veterinary advice for free. If there severe and occur a couple of times a day or more, an in-person visit with a vet is a must.

Take it to the vet instead of sitting around and watching it suffer.

If your cat is old, and has been getting them just on occasion, there's not much you can do.

If your cat is healthy and has been getting them several times a day, I would go see a vet.

Hmm, if they seem serious, I would see a vet. There's really not much more you can do.
