When you do sit-ups you go all the way up to your knees. With crunches you come up about half way. Crunches are much more effective on your lower abs than sit-ups.

Sit ups get your stomach flat and cool too ,but if you want abs and more tension in a work out, use crunches for the abs and tension of the workout.

When you do sit ups, you come all the way up rather than just picking up your shoulders during crunches. Sit ups can hurt your back if you do them, so I'd reccomend crunches. Crunches can actually do more for your body...I do about 300-500 crunches a day and my body is really getting toned for the summer.

hope this helped. =D
