When you dye your hair, depending on the color, (if it is lighter or darker than your natural hair color), it changes the pigments making your hair more red or gold. So your best bet when trying to dye your hair back to its original color and hide those bad high-lights is to buy a color that has the words "ash" in it (For example: Light Ash Brown, Dark Ash Blonde,... etc) These dye colors have no pigement in them so it wont make your hair gold looking or red. Always go for a color a shade or a half a shade darker than your hair because washing your hair, chlorine in swimming pools, and the rays from the sun bleaches your hair and fades the dye job. At first your hair will be a little darker, but your high-lights will be very similar to your original hair color. And afterwards deep-condition your hair because dyeing is very hard on your scalp and hair. Conditioning will also keep the color in longer. Another way to bring out your new color after dyeing it is to use a shampoo/conditioner that is made for your specific hair color. Hope this helps. *ashlee* answered Monday May 30 2005, 10:39 pm: if you bought a dye it would work. but even though you just got it highlighted your still dyeing those little chunks. be careful not to dye your hair too much or youll do a lot of damage to it. alo they make a type of "shampoo" type dye. where after you wash your hair in the mornings you wash it in and its like youve dyed your hair but all you have to do to get it out is wash it again. the bottles of it last a long time. it doesnt really have anything to do with your question but i thought you might like it. itd give you a chace to try different hair colors. angeleyes9304 answered Monday May 30 2005, 10:34 pm: If you buy a product off the counter be sure to use a color a few shades darker than the color now..the highlights wont totally go away, but they will be lighter and look a whole lot better
sunkistsarah answered Monday May 30 2005, 9:51 pm: If you do get something over the counter then you need to wait a few days before you do it because it could ruin you hair having so many chemicals in it in a short amount of time. If you buy something closer to you natural hair color the highlightes might fade but not go away completely....you could go back to the salon and they can do something where it takes them out...other then all if that...your stuck with them. LesiLou answered Monday May 30 2005, 9:29 pm: if you re-color it back to a differnt color it will be ok but after a couple of washes it will fade out and the you would see the highlights!
so you have 2 choices
1.keep coloring your hair when it gets washed out and wait till your highhlights grow out
2. shave your head [ LesiLou's advice column | Ask LesiLou A Question ]
