Mackenzie answered Monday May 9 2005, 1:05 am: Well, I've heaRd of micRowaving SEEDS, but not the plant ITSELF. MicRowaving seeds would be no diffeRent fRom heating them, except that the distRibution of tempeRatuRes in the seeds and soil might be a little diffeRent fRom what you would get if you simply used a space heateR, foR instance. If you can follow me heRe.... what happens is: the paRticles oR photons of ultRaviolet light, X-Rays, oR gamma Rays have enough eneRgy to cause chemical changes in oRganic molecules and can induce mutations in living oRganisms. HoweveR, the photons of micRowaves have so little eneRgy that all they can do is heat living things. The most likely Result of micRowaving the seeds will be that the seeds will become oveRheated and will not gRow at all. Hope this claRifies? [ Mackenzie's advice column | Ask Mackenzie A Question ]
Loli-chan-Shara answered Sunday May 8 2005, 11:54 am: I would say not. Microwaves cook things from the inside out so it will probably go through the dirt and kill the roots... It will make a good experiment for class when you are studying radiation in science. It's been lovely, but I have to scream now. [ Loli-chan-Shara's advice column | Ask Loli-chan-Shara A Question ]
mrs_radcliffe answered Sunday May 8 2005, 8:55 am: Hunni, it will burn. And die.
Michele answered Saturday May 7 2005, 10:37 pm: No! it will cook the plant. Microwaves work by making the molecules and/or cells that make up all things on earth, move very rapidly. It creates heat in the object. OK with food that you want to eat hot. So...food - good! Plant - bad.
Teza answered Saturday May 7 2005, 10:00 pm: Hmm.. you`ll never know until you try it! But i dont think so because its just heat not light or anything. X0` [ Teza's advice column | Ask Teza A Question ]
