Alligator Snapper

Question Posted Wednesday April 27 2005, 4:37 pm

I have an Alligator Snapper. It is still very young and is only about 9-10 ounces. What should I feed it? I have tried "Reptile Sticks" that float, but Squirt(The Turtle) doesn't eat them that much...What other kinda stuff is out there?

Thanks....
I rate!

Find the smallest worms you can, you could even cut them in half and put them into the water. The wiggling should attract the turtle.

Maybe you should try looking up alligator snappers on the internet and see what they eat, and where to get it.

Alligator Snapping Turtles are meat eating creatures. If I were you I'd try some fish-based food product, or sometimes give him some live bait. The best thing to do for you is to ask your veterinarian what food is best for him. If you haven't taken him to the vet yet, it's a good idea to, just to make sure that he will get some nutrition instead of leaving all of his food.

It needs live food, buy it feeder guppies or goldfish. Also, you may want to check to see if it is legal for you to have one in your state. My cousin had some box turtles that he had to free because of that.

From: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Diet in the wild: Any live food that will swim and get into their open-while-hunting jaws

Diet in the zoo: Any kind of meat ranging from fish to chicken to beef, or any commercially sold turtle food
---------------
So it seems as if you can feed it basically anything with meat. :) Good luck with your new pet.
