Alterior Motives

Question Posted Sunday April 3 2005, 12:32 am

I was very intruiged by a previous question about the world ending. It got me thinking, many people have alterior motives. Such as Andrew Jackson, did he put the cherokees through the Trail of Tears becasue he wanted to save them from the Georgians, or did he move them because he was racist. Also, im sure many other people had alterior motives toward what they did, like Hitler, Stalin, Martin Luther King Jr. I'm not attempting to be biases here, so don't immediatly assume that i think hitler is a racist bastard, because im a Jewe. And don't i hate Stalin because he's a communist bastard, because im Russian. Im not black though, that would just be weird. A black, jewish, russian guy? Anyway, back to the question, many people chose alterior motives, but why is that? Is it for self-benefit (which is whati beleive is the main reason), is it for society, or is it just so they can have something for themselves and only themselves? Take as long as you want to answer, ill read it all.

I think these men who go down in history for killing thousands and thousands are ego maniacs. They are narcisstic and they only surround themselves with people who agree with them all the time. In the eyes of the people they keep close to them, the can do nothing wrong. Soon they start to believe that and use their power to control and make the world the way they think it should be. The kinds of thoughts plague me too. I wonder, how could anyone do that to another human being? Aren't we all equal?
And I believe that we are. I could never do that. I especially hate men who abuse women and grown ups who abuse children. This is on a much smaller scale but the need to control is the same. They just don't have an army at their disposal which would let them control whole generations of peoples. These kinds of things are going on in the world today. In the Sudan if Africa....arab muslims against black muslims. In the middle east, men against women who have no rights at all in those countries. I am glad that you do think about these things, because it says that you won't do those kinds of things. But we also have to do something to prevent them, in our own little way. Even if we see it in our home, or school or neighborhood. We need to speak out against people who abuse other people.

You mean "Ulterior Motives". Meaning the real purpose doesn't show on the surface. Hitler WAS a racist bastard. I think Andrew Jackson moved the Cherokees because he wanted their land. Yeah, it's basically just seft benefit.

I think it's a power thing. They start off with a little bit of power, get drunk off it, being the easy drunks that they are, and then they get greedy, and want more. They quickly become alcoholics, and do whatever they have to get more of it, in their specific tastes. Example, Hitler wanted a 'pure' race, so he was probably addicted to Absinthe or something, and he'd do whatever he had to to get it, even if it involved enilating an entire race.

Pretty simple. I think. I hope that my little theory made sense.
