If you're not sure and want to make sure if you give it a little pull, if you feel a little pain when pulling and/or it feels a bit hard to pull out then it normally means it's not been fully used so it's not ready to come out (I'm not 100% that actually works but says that on the back of the box of tampons I have, lol)
Also, it is okay for you to wear them when you first get your monthly bitch so don't worry about it :) [ _eMiLy's advice column | Ask _eMiLy A Question ]

DrSaLi087 answered Thursday March 31 2005, 4:37 pm: your should change it after like, 4-6 hours. I've left it in for maybe 7 or 8, but thats only in desperate situations and not good.
i think for someone who just got their period, you should wait on tampons. just use pads, get accustomed to your flow and then you can switch to tampons or combine.

rememberxforever answered Wednesday March 30 2005, 6:56 pm: okay to be SAFE you should change is every 3-4 hours. the reason is there is a disease called TSS (toxic shock syndrom) and one of the main causes is leaving in a tampon to long. and dont wear them over night even if the box says its okay...
if you have no choice and you have to leave it in for 5 hours you will most likely be fine but dont make a habit of leaving it in long.
i hope that helps =] [ rememberxforever's advice column | Ask rememberxforever A Question ]
xlostangelx answered Wednesday March 30 2005, 2:05 am: definately by 8 hours. thats the maximum time someone should wear one for. in every tampon box that you buy, there will be a little packet showing how to insert one, when to change it, and so on. and yes, its okay to wear it right when you first get your period. i recommend using ones at the lowest absorbancy you can to prevent TSS, which is also in the packet. take care and get back to me with anything you may need. id be glad to help.
xOtWiXi answered Tuesday March 29 2005, 11:05 pm: Hey- I believe every 6 hours otherwise you can suffer from TSS. I read a SUPER scary thing about this girl who left it in for longer than 6 hours and her skin peeled and she got really sick - so I would say 5 hours then for safety. But being a newcomer to all this, talk with your mom or someone that you are close with, and try pads- they really aren't that annoying once you get used to them! Good luck - and if you need anything just ask! [ xOtWiXi's advice column | Ask xOtWiXi A Question ]
XoUkrainianBabeXo answered Tuesday March 29 2005, 9:35 pm: About every four hours. You can get TSS from not changing it often enough. To often is bad as well though. Make sure you use the right size depending on your flow. It is ok to start usuing them but try usuing pads so you know what type of flow you usually have or on what day what type of flow.
