I have very pale, sensitive skin and I burn easily. I have never properly tanned in my life and this year I want to get a tan. I have to use a high SPF sunblock or I will burn. What is the best way to go about getting a natural tan with my skin type? I don't want to use sunbeds or fake tan.
You can get a little color naturally, but I don't recommend it. If you do, use a high SPF sunblock, and reapply frequently. You should tan through it slightly--not a real tan, but a little darkening. And that's all you can get without using unnatural methods. I'm sorry, but there's nothing else you can do.
No matter what you do, if you're fair-skinned, you need to be carefeul about sunburns and sun exposure. Fair-skinned people have a lot of trouble with skin cancer. I know this for a fact; two members of my very immediate family have gotten melanoma, one of them when she was only 40. Those of us who are of fairer complexion, or have parents and grandparents who are, really need to be careful. You should wear sunblock all the time, even in the winter, and try to keep yoru skin covered in the sun. Ultimately, in the long run, your life is more important than your tan. Please keep that in mind. [ daughterofwily's advice column | Ask daughterofwily A Question ]

Try a fake tan. I know you said you don't want one, but some of the new ones look really good.
Teza answered Saturday March 26 2005, 1:31 pm: Use a tanning lotion! Before you tan put a lil bit of tanning oil or some kind of sunburn lotion so you dont burn bad! x0 [ Teza's advice column | Ask Teza A Question ]

What you should do is use a high number spf, then wait about 20 minutes before you go in the water, to let it soak in. Also put on sun-block and then put baby-oil on top, one of my friends did that and she came back from vacation a golden-tan, it looked really good, because she is usually a little pale.
I hope my advice helped!! [ xosugarnspicexo's advice column | Ask xosugarnspicexo A Question ]
AlleeJoy answered Saturday March 26 2005, 9:38 am: maybe you should try putting on a high number SPF. and if you want to go swimming afterword, wait 5 to 10 minutes until it really gets in there. So then while you are waiting, you can try getting a tan there. Also, in the water your sunblock will come RIGHT off unless you use waterproof. In addition to that, the water is a great deal on most people's tans and burns becuase of the sun reflection. well, i hope you use my advice wisely, and i am also sorry if it isnt going to work out. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! ((its very dangerous if you are burnt badly, so be very careful!))

You should really always wear sun-block when going out, sun rays are harmful to your skin.
