Why are human beings, as a species, so weak minded that they need religion to tell them what to do? I want real answers, not just the whole,"Jesus is great!lol!" shit that most people will dish out. I.E. I want someone intelligent to explain this to me.

Little_Miss_Cant_Be_Wrong answered Friday March 18 2005, 6:12 pm: Religious people are not neccessarily weak minded, if anything they are strong, because it takes immense faith to believe in something that you do not see. Religion does not tell you what to do, rather it sets guidelines (I don't really know if that is the right word, even) that help the believes in that religion to keep the faith and stay on the right path. I, for one, do not use religin to tell me what to do. I am a very spiritual person, but religion to me just means what kind of faith you have (example: Christianity, Buddism, Muslim, whatever) but the actual faith... now that is extremely important. I am a Christian, and I am my faith does not give me rules, it gives me morals. It does not give me burdens, it gives me peace. And most of all, it does not give me answers to all of life's questions, but it does give me assurance of my salvation through Jesus Christ. I can understand though, the doubts an athiest would have, and I would love to discuss those with you sometime. It does seem strange to think that there are so many religions in the world, and how could one possibly know which one was the right one, or if any of the were right, or if they were all just made up by men? It really is all very confusing. But, I do have to disagree on your statement that religious people are weakminded, or that they use religion as a way to just naively coast through life. A person's faith is a very deep, and a very meaningful thing, and takes courage to be able to put all your trust into a deity, Jesus for example, and to put Him in control of your life. But, I am a living witness that he truly does work miracles in your life once you put your trust in him.
I don't know if that answered your question, but please leave me a message if you have any more questions or want to discuss this more, I could give you my email or something. I won't just load you with a bunch of 'Christianity is the best' stuff, I will try my best, though, to explain some aspects of religion that may be confusing you. I hope this maybe cleared up your question a little, but it really is a hard question, and if you really wanted to know more, there are some great non-biased books that I could reccommend to you. Let me know if you are interested. Have a great day!!! [ Little_Miss_Cant_Be_Wrong's advice column | Ask Little_Miss_Cant_Be_Wrong A Question ]

Religion has been passed down from generation, to generation and really, they don't want to believe anything else. I'm not an extreamly religious person, I'm more stuck between agnostic and athiest. To alot of people, they just think that it was something stupid someone decided to make up because they had so much extra time on their hands. But, whatever. Let people be their own little "weak minded" self and live on with their insanely religious life. Some people just need their religion and their belief in "God" to fall back on. Apparently God can answer prayers and is good. When I was younger, he didn't to shit for me. (My family is highly Catholic by the way). To be quite honest, there is really no reason. And if someone who was highly religious to answer this question, expect a- You will be going to hell I can't believe you don't believe in God blah blah blah- kind of an answer. harpist4u answered Friday March 18 2005, 5:57 pm: I believe in God not because I am weak or need some religion to settle my spirits. I believe in him because I can and want to and I know that he exists. I do not nee hard proof to know that he is in my life. I just know it through actions and small mericals everyday. Yes Jesus is great but that is not all of it. Christians tend to get caught up in 'converting people' that they forget reality. Being a Christian and believing on God takes work and time. When you first begin your journey it is hard. Often you have to give up habits, and rituals that inhibit you from getting closer to God. Although many people believe going to church will be enough it isn't. You have to read the bible and tell people about God. Everyone has a different preception of what God is. I think he is a person who is powerful enough to change anything and everything in one instant but chooses to listen to me instead. i am able to think, write down, or even talk out loud my issues and I know he is listening. Even when I sin I know he will forgive me because in the bible it says love the sinner hate the sin. He forives me for whatever i do and then forgets it. That does not mean I can continuously do the same sin over and over again because that pulls me away from my beliefs and God. Being a Christian is about a person relationship AND reflecting out into the world for everyone to see. I know God is with me everywhere I go. He is the most dependable thing I have, even more than myself. I know that no matter what, once I allow him into my soul, he will never leave. My personal relationship is a relationship based on my knowledge of his stories (the bible), his laws and how much I abide by them, and how much I talk to him. Talking may be through prayer or just thinking and talking. I hope this helps you and if you want more just email me at RMS2388@aol.com.....Just write in the subject "I want to know more about God" [ harpist4u's advice column | Ask harpist4u A Question ]
redxroses answered Friday March 18 2005, 5:36 pm: I believe that so many people need religion to tell them what to do and how to live their lives because they are afraid of the unknown. Like some kids go to church every Sunday because their parents say they will go to 'Hell' if they don't. They think of 'Hell' as it's probably displayed on televesion: fire, red guy, screams, etc. I also believe that some people, like many of the people in the small town I live in, believe they need religion because they are stupid and close minded. One of my classmates believes in Jesus and the Bible deeply but can't explain why. She's not a person who you would consider full of faith, she's just not very bright... That's my opinion... :D [ redxroses's advice column | Ask redxroses A Question ]

BeautifulMadness answered Friday March 18 2005, 5:21 pm: A lot of people don't need religion to tell them what to do - they need religion to comfort them that there may be life after death, to give them something to believe in when they are weak and/or upset, and to guide them.
Sometimes we all need a little faith, especially when those around us can't give it.
That's my reasons for RELIGION...as for it telling you what to do...hell knows, because laws do that. So in that respect, I guess it's just personal preference. Sometimes it's easier to follow something you believe in than something you have to do.
Blessed Be,
