I've always wanted to be a singer!!Now that I'm out of school I really wanna pursue it.I write lyrics constantly(and poems),my parents say they catch me singing around the house when I don't even realize I'm doing it,haha!! I want to do sort of an Urban style..Aaliyah,Mya,Ashanti,Ciara,Beyonce,Christina Milian,etc.But...I'm white! :\ What I want to know is how to get started.I read on here someone say they got a record deal,I really want to know how to go about that.Where do I begin, and how do I go about finding an agent or manager, etc. ? I live in a small town in Ohio so it's not exactly booming with musical opportunities!! Any help is appreciated!I rate!!

Anyway, you know getting into the music biz is tough! I myself have started two indie urban labels and helped create a Gospel label in SC, and we managed to get one song on the radio. Takes time and a LOT of energy. Your step one must be getting a demo made. You write your own songs already, so you just need to get with a producer for some hot beats. Finding a studio is key; or a producer who can record at home. Don't get cheated though; a decent demo can cost as little as $300. Your other step one is trying to get on a stage as often as possible. Talent shows, parties, local clubs. Don't worry so much about an agent or manager right now; you're not exactly Ciara yet. But you do need to hook up with someone who can get you in the urban scene. I've managed a local rapper and a rock band, and the hardest thing is starting out with no name. We had to create a buzz. That's what you have to do. There's so much advice I can give you on this subject, so just come to my column with any more questions. Good luck!
The producer you're talking about is Tony "Hi-Tek" Cottrell, of Hi-Tek Productions and Teklab Recording Studio. To try to get in touch with him you can contact the offices of Zach Katz Management at 310.360.8324 or you can get out the phone book and get the number & address directly to the studio. Again good luck! [ tiffanyadams's advice column | Ask tiffanyadams A Question ]

With the radio station you could ask them if they would let you sing maybe one song. They will probably hear you sing first. But hey its worth a shot!
h.i.h. good luck to ya! [ ShYbl0nD3's advice column | Ask ShYbl0nD3 A Question ]
