I volunteered at a community center and helped with swimming lessons during the summer. Think of something related to your hobby or what you might want to be when you grow up. That may guide you into something interesting.
Some intial thoughts-soup kitchen, pet rescue service, candystriper, battered women's shelter, beautification project, trail marking/maintenance. You are only limited by your imagination.

my big sister helped out at a nursing home. she also helped built a gazebo, a fish pond and plant flowers in the garden there. you do something like my sister did. a idea is to help restore a historical figure. if i come up with anymore i'll type them to you.
