I have this Quantum Fireball 10 gig hard drive that I have been having serious problems with. Whenever I have it in my computer, as soon as I boot my computer it starts clicking and when Windows actually starts, it's really slow. I think it's skipping, but I'm not sure, what can I do do fix this. Only answer if you can think of somthing to insult me with or make me laugh...or if you can actually help me here.
Additional info, added Tuesday March 1 2005, 10:34 pm: That's right, Windows. That means it's a PC...and you know what that means.. Want to answer more questions in the Technology category? I'm assuming therefore it's not the drive that windows is on, and that there is another hard-drive that actually runs the computer in there. If this is not correct, let me know and I'll update the answer. :)
Start with the simple stuff - if I remember correctly, my dad had a quantum fireball 10 gig and it had jumpers. Make sure that the jumpers for the quantum are set to slave, and that the primary hard drive is set for master.
Also, check the settings in the bios. Make sure that it has the right information for both drives, and that it looks for the master/primary hard drive before the slave/secondary in the boot sequence.
If you've got another computer laying around waiting to be experimented on, shove it in there as a slave and see what happens. :)
Hard-drives last a long time unless they get tossed around like frisbees or were pretty crappy to start with. Seriously, I've had them last over 10 years when I finally tossed them out - and they still worked, I just had no further use for such tiny hard drives.

And since your computer writes and erases things to the disk continuously after a while the disk goes bad and can no longer be read. There's no way to fix the problem with the disk... disks just wear out. You either need to buy a new hard drive with the same specifications, upgrade your hard drive with a new one that is better but can also run on your system, or get a new computer all together.
