confused about my course ,BS Nursing

Question Posted Friday February 25 2005, 8:49 am

hi, I am a 2nd year student of Nursing and right now I'm really confused if this is really the course for me.

I admit that the reason I shifted to nursing (I already took 2 years of BS Psychology) was because I was attracted to the big bucks awaiting in the states, Canada, etc.

But then, after hearing about how stressful nursing is, after being exposed to some nursing techniques and obligations, and just observing some nurses, I think it is rather a boring and stressful job, something that I don't think I would like to get myself into..

What should I do? I don't think my mom would allow me to shift again and all my relatives are so proud of me because they already think I will be a future nurse earning big bucks.... pls help! I don't know what to do...I realized that life is too short to be unhappy, stressed and live "for the money"

The answer is simple, would you rather work at a job you love and earn big bucks, or at a job you hate and earn big bucks?

There are a lot of job opportunities out there right now that are high in demand that can fit your needs. I was in the same position where I wanted to become a nurse practitioner, but the work environment and pay was rather boring and stressful. I changed my mind over to pharmacy because I already have a passion in the medical field, the job pays very well, and the work environment can range from hospitals, supermarkets, etc.

This job may not fit you, but it's an idea. Just explore your job opportunities and with your family, they should be able to understand. We live in a difficult and confusing world and it only takes time to find out what we want and what we're meant for.

Good luck, hope this helps!

If its not what you want to do dont do it, youll end up regretting it and its not good for the patient to see a nurse that doesnt actually want to help. If you want to help people try helping people in different ways. If you dont want to be a nurse why dont you do something like police doctor or something like that. Then ur still helping people and earning big BUCKS. xx

There is nothing worse than being a patient and having a nurse that does not want to be there. Though you might not mean to, if you hate it you will take out your agression on your patients. Patients who are there because they are sick and the last thing that they need is someone being mean to them or not giving them the proper care.

If you are unsure about your career decision you really need to take a semester off and explore other fields. Think long and hard about what has interested you in the past, what jobs you have enjoyed doing and what jobs that you would like to learn more about. Research them. Find out how long you need to be in school to do that kind of work, what the work entails, what kind of responsibilities come with it and its pay. Then go find someone who works at that job and ask them to tell you about it. Ask them what the love and hate about it, if it gives them free time to do what they want to in their life, if they bring the job home with them. Use the sememster off to explore all of these things. At the end of that semester (your new life course) make a decision based on the data that you have. If any of those options appeals more to you than becoming a nurse, do not become a nurse.

I know that you do not want to disappoint your family by changing your mind again but this really is one of the most important decisions that you will ever make. It is not something that you should take lightly or allow others to influence. YOU need to find a career that YOU want to do because YOU will be the one working it, not them. If your job makes you miserable then you are the one with the wrecked life, not them. Dont waste precious time in college taking something that you hate to make your family happy then in about 10 years return to college to find your true passion. That is wasting your life and life is really short. Go out there, find your passion and claim it for yourself.

I hope everything works out for you. Please contact me anytime if I can be of help. Best Wishes!

life is like a coin... yuo can spend it once and on anything...

wat that is saying is spend your "coin" on something you truely want. dont do sumthing with your life just because you no you will make major bucks or become famous. most rich people get rich because they live painful lives while getting payed a lot, or happy people with jobs that they love and can accel at and get payed more and more as they get higher up in their career. i think that unless you are sure you want to be a nurse, it might be worth it to look into another career that u would truely love doing. i hope i helped you! good luck in life!
