If your gerbil just recently died today, you can bury it and give it a funeral or a speech in remembrance of your gerbil. Try not to think about him/her so you won't be that sad, if you are already. Then, when the time comes, you can buy a new one, only if you want to. I've never had a pet so I don't know exactly what I would do if my pet died.

Buy a new one? Have a small cute little funeral for it. Sorry, never had a pet, don't really know much about them.
