I just got my braces a few days ago. On Saturday and it is true that they do hurt. However, when the orthodonist glues them on and places the wire through them- it doesn't hurt. The pain occurs later in the day or the next day.

If you lose a tooth- I am guessing you still have your baby teeth? Because if you already have your matured teeth, you shouldn't be losing any tooth. Certain teeth in your mouth (after you get braces) may feel loose but it is common and they will stop feeling loose after a couple of weeks.

If a tooth does grow in when you have on your braces, you should check with the orthodonist. Usually areas that don't have a tooth in place, the orthodonist doesn't put braces there so if the tooth does grow- it grows on its own with nothing to block it.

Getting braces put on doesn't hurt at all, it only hurts for the first few appointments, since your orthodontist has to tighten the wires and your teeth move and your nerves are sensitive. When you lose a tooth while having your braces on, you need to wait until your new tooth grows back in and your orthodontist will then put a new bracket on. There is nothing to be scared of, just think of how your teeth will look like after you get your braces taken off. When I had my braces put on about 3 years ago (now I don't have any braces or a retainer), it didn't hurt for me when I got them put on. It's different for everyone and you probably won't experience pain until your teeth start to move. Hope I helped :)

D/W they do hurt but its way worth it at the end!!! and they wouldn't give you braces if they thought your teeth were gonna fall out!

Well for everyone it is different, but yes your braces are going to hurt for a couple of days. Just take some medicine so that it numbs your mouth a little for the next few days, and eat soft food such as ice cream, soup, and milkshakes. If a tooth grows in while you have your braces on, the ortho will wait until the tooth has grown in sufficiently for a bracket to fit on it.
Good luck with getting your braces. Even though it might not seem worth it the trouble & pain right now, in 2 years time you will have a beautiful smile!

okay well first of all, you shouldn't be afraid they hurt for about 3 days yeah, but if i can stand the pain you can! believe me i've been known to pass out easily! haha but if your tooth gets knocked out it won't harm your braces or anything, OR if you grow a tooth it wont do anything either your ortho will fix it all up, you wont regret having them down the road believe it or not! rate me _kay_

Braces aren't really all that bad. I'm not going to lie to you and tell you they're not going to hurt, because they will. The first couple of day's your teeth will be sore and you won't be able to chew for awhile. But after a week or so, you won't even notice they're on. After that the only time their be sore is when you get your elastics changed. It'll only hurt for a day or two, so it's not too bad. If the dentist notices that you have a lose tooth and it's ready to fall out, he'll/she'll skip that too and just put the wire over it. And if another tooth grows in, he/she will simply add on a new bracket for your tooth.
