Motivation!

Question Posted Sunday February 20 2005, 12:40 pm

Hi guys,
I am NEVER motivated to do my homework...if it is a big essay then I will plan and plan, but that's actually a bad thing because planning makes me feel like I've achieved more than I actually have. I end up rushing all my work the night before it's due. I'm alright once I've started doing it but I can never get round it!!
I've tried getting everything else I want/need to do out of the way first, but even when I do that I still just dawdle around hoping someone will sign into MSN or something. I've tried loads of things and nothing works. Anyone have any tips on how to get myself motivated and do my work on time?
xx

Hey there!

I know what it's like being in your situation. The good news is we can do something about it.

Try these:

a) Set your priorities. Make it specific as possible. And keep in mind why you are doing them so that your in track.

b) Get organized. There are planners that you can get for a dollar in the 99cents store/s.

c) If you need help on your studies, have a study buddy. Other than that you can choose to study with your friend online. Make sure you both really stick to the plan of studying.

d) Study in a place free from distractions. Best place is the library if not bookstore.

e) Set aside a time to study for example 60 minutes but have study breaks.

f) When you accomplish a task do reward yourself. For example, watching your favorite movie, eat your favorite food, or whatever you can think of.

g) Last but not least, write down the tasks you need to do... Sticky notes will help but if you prefer online it's much better.

I hope these helps!

You should think, "o manh, that huge essay is coming up. Than you should get it done first thing. Be sure you know that you will be able to wait for kids to sign on MSN and enjoy it without worrying about it at all.
sry if you already tried it

Try limiting yourself with planning. Right when you get home, write down plans and put it on final draft paper, and plan some more, put more on paper, and soon, you'll be doing less planning, but all you should try doing is limit your planning. But if you catch yourself planning too much, hust say "hey, all of this planning should go on paper before I forget it." and write it down.

This is what I do when they assign the essay and when it is due write it down and post it on something that will help remind you! Then when there is about a week before it is due go to your public library and get some research and check out some books about what you are doing your essay on and then make yourself an outline! That always helps me! Also always stay organized!lol! Hope I helped you!

Set up 1 hour blocks of time...50 min. of work, and 10 min. for free time...use an egg timer to remind you when free time is over.
