xo_dream answered Sunday February 20 2005, 1:08 am: most non religious weddings, to my knowledge, are just at a courthouse, but i'm sure you can have some kind of ceremony just at the beach or at someone's house without a priest or anything where you make up your own things to say to each other & exchange rings and that .. but i still don't know how "non-religious" it is, because, well yeah, weddings are generally a religious thing. sorry i couldn't help more.

crazykellie2009 answered Saturday February 19 2005, 9:22 pm: well the vows are supposed to be religious and you have to do those but the only difference really is the setting like it will be outside or some other place ... vegas? lol but yeah you really cant have a non religous one because it is, what you could say a religous thing
BeautifulMadness answered Saturday February 19 2005, 7:21 pm: Most non-religios weddings take place in a registrar's office and are called civil ceremonies. They are exactly the same as a Christian wedding but without the 'taking your vows before God' stuff. It's a lot more formal and boring, to be perfectly honest...
Some non-religious weddings are beautiful though, and can take place in a hotel, on the beach, stuff like that...couples are also more likely to be able to write their own vows.
They still exchange rings and sign the marriage contract, and can still have bridesmaids and page boys, but they don't walk up any kind of aisle. Two witnesses are required at a civil ceremony.
Hope that helped!!
Blessed Be,

You can say vows, without bringing any religion into them (vows that are more personal), exchange rings if you want...ect. Some people who chose a secular wedding are spiritual rather then religious, atheist, or agnostic and homosexuals, wherever same-sex marriage is allowed.
