Hey! I am trying out for the school play on Tuesday, there is 100+ people trying out (some 6th, 7th and 8th graders, I am in 8th, not that it matters) but I am scared. I had Speech and Drama for 12 weeks with the teacher that is going to be the one judging tryouts, I have performed in some stuff before (our teacher picked our group to perform in front of the school with our scence from the Jungle Book, she picked me to give my speech at Grandparents Day, and I was Lady Macbeth in a play a few years back) but I am still so nervous. Anyone have any advice on trying out, how to make my acting better, things to do or not to do in tryouts, etc? It would be much appreciated, and I rate high!
Thanks!

CollegeGirlNH answered Sunday January 30 2005, 9:02 pm: What I usually do before I go to an audition is I get into the character that I will be reading for, or the character my monolouge is based on.. I usually do this 15 minutes ahead of time, Everything you do or say should be in the character. Also make sure you contantly breathe, concentrate on your breathing as well and it will help you relax.
I hope that helps

Once your confident with ur acting and have opinions on it from people you trust then you will do great!! Just make sure u smile a lot and look like your having fun**it always helps to get the casting director to remember you.

Drama_Secretary answered Friday January 28 2005, 9:14 pm: I am all about Drama. Now, the best way to attack a try-out is to show that 1) You can take direction. Directors love it when you do what they say with out a fight over it. If they correct you say thank you. They are trying to make you better so take it to heart. 2) They want someone who can get out of their comfort-zone. If you are a class clown that really helps. But if you are normally quiet then you have to prove you can be loud. If you are normally uptight then loosen up. Directors love people that can loosen up. 3) Here's a tip on the best way to always have a consistent performance. Focus on the other actor. Quit worrying so much on how you look or how you are saying something and just focus on the scene. Your character doesn't worry about how they are saying something when they are trying to get someone out of their way. Focus on the scene. I've got more suggestions. If you want them, email me at lindsey@cpaz.net. Just so you know how experienced I am I've taken .5 years of Beginning Theater. I've completed a .5 year of Advanced Drama so far. I was on Shakespeare Team. I'm on Drama Team and I'm a scene captain. I'm secretary of our Drama Club and I'm only a freshman. So, I can help you out. hAzElEyEzXx answered Friday January 28 2005, 7:39 pm: hey,
I had the same problem last year, I was a wreck because I was so nervous. I'm sure you will do fine but here are a few things to help. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Practice makes perfect. I'm sure u have heard that sooooo many times but it is soo true! Practice a lot especially that day. Also you could practice w/ friends. Research your character too.Example: If you are going out for a colonial person, see if u can find any movies that is in colonial times. Watch it soo many times until you can act the way they do in the movie. Okay so that day make sure you keep your head up high! Show some confidence. And try to look at the judges. When you are practicing at home, make up hand motions that you think would fit the part. Also try to memorize some lines because that shows that you are willing to memorize and that you are ready to do this! On tryout day, don't let the pressure get to you, just focus on what you are doing and saying.
good luck!
and best of wishes!
