Shelbyjune answered Friday January 7 2005, 7:11 pm: You know, when I had to sing a recital or perform a play, I was a nervous wreck! I found out that, the moment I wasn't nervous was the moment I had to worry. Remember, nervousness if only negative energy. So turn that nervousness from a liability to an asset.
You wouldn't be going to a competition if you weren't any good, would you? Focus on that first. Deep breathing is a good option; going over your routines if also excellent. But don't do too much of this because, frankly, I think it only tightens the nerves and you want them focused not stressed to breaking. Remember, energy can and will be your asset. Focus your energy to be your follow-through, not your hindrance (man, I should teach this -- wait a minute, I do teach this!)
Hope this helps! [ Shelbyjune's advice column | Ask Shelbyjune A Question ]

Just believe in yourself and be confident that you can win! =)

becki817 answered Friday January 7 2005, 5:16 pm: O Really?? AWESOME! I have a dance competition tomorrow!! Ok.. calm yourslef I would go over your routines several times in your head before you actually perform it that way you can reasure yourself that you wont mess up... Also when I perform.. I don't like to look at the people in the audience. I try to look at a back wall or something. Everyone gets nervous... just try not sweat it you will have many more competition after this one... also a tip for you is when you are on the floor performing try not to try TOO hard because you usually end up looking worse just pretend that you are in class.. Well I have to go but if you have any more questions you can leave them in my inbox :) &hearts
