when i started playing guitar, i had the same problem. for me it just took a lot of practice, adn once you keep playing it, you barely have to think abotu the chords, it's almost like a second nature. my dad's been playing guitar for almost 40 years, and it's as if he doesn'y even take a second glance at teh guitar once he gets started. it's just like any other instrument, you just have to get used to it. im sure you'll do fine and i hope all goes well...^_^

there isnt really a trick, just remember how fingering goes. only use your middle, ring, and pinky though, so you can make barre chords later. the easiest way is to learn a song with basic chords so it wont be as bad, but this kinda helps me:
..
Major E - you need to know this for the others to work, cant help you.
..
Minor E - remove your middle finger from Major E form
..
Minor 7 E - remove your pinky and middle from MajE form
..
Major 7 E - remove your pinky from Major E form
..
as for A's
..
Major A - cant help you again
..
Minor A - shape of Major E but down 1 string
..
Minor 7 A - remove pinky from MajA form, also shape of Maj7E
..
Maj7 A - get minor A form, and drop your pinky one string down.
..
..
i hope those helped, i dont know how to help with others though, get a teacher or a book so you can always use a reference.
..
as for the notes, just remember it goes in alphabetical order for every string, and there are sharps for all notes EXCEPT B and E, somebody else posted a chart at this question, that should help you with those

The best solution I can offer is to map out the guitar neck by fret position and then list the note at that position:<br>
0__1__2__3__4__5__6__7__8__9__10_11_12<br>
E__F__F#_G__G#_A__A#_B__C__C#_D__D#_E<br>
B__C__C#_D__D#_E__F__F#_G__G#_A__A#_B<br>
G__G#_A__A#_B__C__C#_D__D#_E__F__F#_G<br>
D__D#_E__F__F#_G__G#_A__A#_B__C__C#_D<br>
A__A#_B__C__C#_D__D#_E__F__F#_G__G#_A<br>
E__F__F#_G__G#_A__A#_B__C__C#_D__D#_E<br>
<br>
Just remember that G# is the same as Ab, etc (not sure how much music theory you know).<br>
I recommend learning to play your major scales, and be able to play a chromatic scale from 0 (open) to the 12th fret on every string (playing every fret using all four fingers on your left hand on the fretboard, at a steady pace right on up the neck).<br>
Feel free to ask me more guitar things either on here, or directly at sporkopolis2001@yahoo.com <br>
I've been playing bass for 15 years, guitar for about 8 (I think), in case you're wondering. Good luck!<br>
(edited several times to try to get the table to be readable)
