I'm taking fencing right now and at the begining of each practice we have to run 10 laps around the gym, forwards, backwards, cross overs, knees up, feet up. I have physical induced asthma and I'm having trouble breathing while I'm running. My mom is going to my doctor to get my inhaler but that's on Wednesday. I have practice on Monday- Friday so on Monday and Tuesday and maybe on Wednesday I won't have my inhaler. I'm confused as to whether I should tell my coach about it and sit out when we run or just suck it up and run. We've had two practices so far and I've had to suck it up and run but I felt like I was going to pass out. I was lightheaded, nautious and breathing really heavy. Should I talk to my coach and see if he lets me sit it out just for these couple of days until I get my inhaler? I don't want people to think I'm a lazy bitch and not want to run though. Can anyone help?
JeNbABe33894 answered Saturday November 27 2004, 6:25 pm: you need to tell the coach. chances are people have noticed your heavy breathing and will understand that you really are sick and you need an inhaler before you can do any running and stuff!

As long as you try hard, and explain that your prescription or whatever it is won't be avalible untill at the earliest Wednesday, he should be totally fine with it.

You need to have an inhaler on you at all times, and you need to tell your coach. If you can't breathe right, you'll have trouble thinking right. If you can't think right, you can't fence well, can you? I took track when I was in sixth grade and had an asthma attack every time I tried to do sprints, or run laps or anything. I eventually quit the team because I hated having asthma issues all the time. I'm not telling you to quit the team, but you HAVE to have an inhaler in an easy-to-access place for you ALL the time if you're doing any strenuous activity. You could get a bad attack and have to go to the hospital if you don't have your inhaler. That would suck. It almost happened to me. If people think you're a lazy bitch, tell then you have asthma and that you need to have an inhaler before you can do all that running. Even though you feel better after a while, inducing asthma by activity can harm your heart and lungs. I don't think anyone will think you're lazy, and if so, who cares!
