Straight Perm

Question Posted Wednesday November 24 2004, 8:52 pm

I have wavy hair that is very thick and very frizzy in humidity. I live in Maine we have pretty humid summers. I am looking into getting a striaght perm in the summer. Does anyone know:
1.) If they have harmful chemicals that are carcinogenic or damage your hair?
2.) If they don't get frizzy even in humidity
3.) How long they last
4.) How much they cost
5.) Anything else about them!
Thanks much!

Hey hun my hair is juss like yours...Think and frizzy and wavy....Heres my veiws on your questions.....
1.)Yes they have harmful chemicals in them...Thats why they smell so bad...They can really damage your hair if its not done right..No matter what all have harful chemicals
2.)It might get frizzy..The chemicals in it dont actually help your hair any eather! Damaged hair always gets frizzed out!
3.)If you get the real expencive one it lasts forever (you have to touch of the roots though of corse) and the other one lasts for about 3-5 months...I got the 3-5 month one and it didnt do anything....
4.)Like i said the real expencive one...that one costs up to 600$ and the other costs 50$-100$ (it doesnt work :o) )
5.)I wouldnt do it haha id just stick with straitening your hair...Heres what i do...I shampoo it one day then straiten it the same day..Then the next day DONT SHAMPOO!! Its all done for you!! you wont have to do anything but touch up with a straitener!! And its not greesy gross! No one knows the secret ;o)!! HOPE I HELPED!!

Hey! well lets see. I have the same problem also. But getting a perm doesnt damage your hair as much as straightening it everyday. It does not get frizzy in the humidity, they last about 6 months then you have to get the roots re-done. They cost according to how long and how thick your hair is and even though you will have a perm you still have to go once with a starightener just to make sure you get it as straight as you want it. Hope i helped.

STRIAGHT PERMS DO NOT WORK!!!!! I have very thick hair and my hair is like wavy curly kind of thing. I got one of those damn things and it last for like 1 week and if you ask me I think its pretty expensive for lasting about a week. The lady told me it was supposed to last for 3 months but yeah she was lieing. It does having harmful chemicals and yes they will damage your hair, my hair was fried. Your hair does get frizzy, unless you use like a really good frizz control. They don't last long, they cost to much. It cost like a 130 bucks. But if you want your hair to stay striaght and less frizzy i say get a flat iron, some paul mitchell striaghtening gel and all that stuff. And get some frizz ease or something. It works for me.

Hey!
1.) Yes there are harmful chemicals and it damages your hair alot.
2.) If you put the right products in it, then nope!
3.) They last about..4-5 months I guess.
4.) It depends where you get it done really. Mine was about $50..but it depends on how long your hair is too.
5.) It takes a few hours to do..and you have to use certain hair products because some can really damage your hair if you get the perm. All this info I gave you is for a hair relaxer..there is also a japanese permanent straightener thing. It lasts alot longer, doesn't have alot of harmful chemicals, but it takes a long time and it can cost up to $500!
Hope I helped! -- Taliaa --
