Hi Guys..Ok I know this is going to sound ignorant comming from a 22 year old but I really dont know. I am signing up for a gym membership, But I have never been worked out in a gym before. I am tring to tone my belly, sides, and legs, and loose a couple pounds. should I use certain machines how long on each. should I get in a certain rutine. If any of you go to a gym let me know what works for you and what you might think will work me. Thanks a lot guys

AmericnJewl answered Thursday October 28 2004, 3:20 pm: I've tried working out a gyms--both with weights and on cardio machines. I completely lost interest. It's a pain to adjust the weights (especially if you don't know how much is too much or too little) and an hour on the stairclimber is boring, no matter what. If you're trying to lose weight, consider changing your diet. If you're at the gym and you're doing strength training, you might find that you're putting on more pounds...of muscle.
I joined Curves because I found it to be perfect for me (not necessarily perfect for everyone). I'm 24, 5'4" and 120lbs. I'm not there to lose weight necessarily, but to get fit and healthy by increasing my activity level. If you want to know more about curves let me know!
AngelofMusic answered Tuesday October 26 2004, 7:30 pm: A lot of gyms have a free accesment thing where a personal trainor customises a workout plan for you and introduces you to the machines you should use. I was suggested to do 45 min to an hour of cardio and that I could do eather spinning, tredmill, stair master, or elipictical. I swich off so I don't get sick of one. Then spend a little time on weights but I woulden't be able to suggest which ones to do. [ AngelofMusic's advice column | Ask AngelofMusic A Question ]
BedtymeCarebear01 answered Tuesday October 26 2004, 3:06 pm: thats not ignorant, there are many people that have never been to a gym and have started finally going in thier 40's lol. I agree with a previous reply that having a gym routine myself, they usually consult that with you and you tell them exactly what you want to do or have done and they go through and set a routine for you and with you. If you dont want to do that or you want to make your own I hav a few suggestions.. ok one, for your legs, i suggest doing about 10 mins on the leg presses or about 20 on a treadmill.. for your abs n sides, i suggest using the ab roller machine if your gym has one. That thing works wonders and can relly tone yah up. May I also suggest that if your gym offers it, take a short Pilates class... if you relly want results that work n last.. definatly try Pilates. Its definatly one of the best work-out programs out there. [ BedtymeCarebear01's advice column | Ask BedtymeCarebear01 A Question ]
jbdreamer answered Tuesday October 26 2004, 10:44 am: Actually, when you join a gym they usually have an orientation/tour of some sort and give you all that information. They have fitness people, and nutritionists to help you make a fitness plan and how to execute it. And often this service is free with the membership.
