Hair Color

Question Posted Sunday October 24 2004, 8:01 pm

I have medium blonde hair and I want to dye the ends purple. Now, I'm worried that this will look bizarre and I'll have to cut it. So, I'm thinking about buying the temporary dye. I have two questions. First, do you think what I want to do with my hair would look weird, or do you think I would be better off putting a few streaks in it? My hair goes about halfway down my back. Second, what is a good type of dye that will wash out in one or two showers? The water at my house is kind of weird (It has a lot of chlorine in it) so I need a dye that won't react with the water and make my hair look weird after I wash the dye out.

you can do it if you want, but the un-natural look is quickly going out right now. i suggest that if you want to get your hair colored then use a natural color (maybe 2 or 3 shades lighter then your natural color) everyone is going brunette now also though so if you think it would go with your skin tone and eyes then that might be good to, i dont suggest purple becuase you maybe not like it in the end, but if you want to try it out then buy temperary color that washes out after your first shower you can find all different kinds at drug stores. if you like it then you can get it done pernamently, i suggest you get it done perfessionally if you get it done pernamently reather then doing it yourself, becuase it is easily messed up if you do it yourself. i dont suggest using kool-aid if you get that idea, my friend did that one time and her hair adventauallly turned from red to and ugly brownish.

If you semi permanent the tips of it, it will come off. Trust me about this it will last about a week b/c i dyed my hair a dark brown and it came off, your hair color will look the same after you washed it several times.

I know someone who had blonde hair, and had the ends died light brown for prom, and it looked great up in the hair-do, but down it didn't look so great. I think that you should try it with the temporary, and if you don't like it then you can wash it out, also, i wouldn't try something as drastic as purple, b/c u don't know what it will look like, or if it will change ur hair a weird color.

In my hair, this look would look pretty weird on me. I think if ure going to do this you should cut ure hair about shoulder length, that i think would look much cooler. I dont know any dyes that u could succesfully use but, my friend has dyed her hair with kool-aid. she dyed it purple, blue, and even red and it looked really cool. If u do streaks use marker, ive done that b4.

*plz rate me bcause im new at this

I think that would be cool, but only if you did blue, or pink. If you have a Sally's Beauty Supply in your town, they sell THE BEST hair and makeup products money can buy.

i've known at least two blonde girls who dyed the tips, and it didn't look good for either. my recommendation would be to divide your hair into quarters vertically, using a comb, and to pin the top three portions up, leaving only the bottom fourth [closest to your skin] to be dyed. then it will show softly from beneath, or more strongly when you wear your hair up, so even if you don't like it, you can get rid of it.

i've heard underground color is a good brand, but it's semi-permanent. if the purple goes well, i would suggest adding pink streaks as well, for extra flair.

also, whatever you do, don't go blue. the blue mixed with the natural blond will fade to a sick seafoam green. trust me, i know from experience.

Your going to have to bleach your hair before you put the purple in or it won't show up....

Hot topic sells some bright coloured dyes that wash out eventually. I think the colour would look cool, so go for it. Make sure your school or work or whatever doesn't have rules against unnatural hair colours. Mine does.

um for this play thing in school i had to have pink hair (i was an earthworm in james and the giant peach) and i bought this like.. hairspray stuff instead of temporary hair color.. just because teh lady there said it would take like 3/4 showers to wash out the temp. hairspray.. go to like a small shop and ask them about it (they can really help). but if you just really wanna see a small like 20 second result then use the hairspray idea... if not.. then all i can tell you is ask the people that work there and they can really help you decide if its going to look good and/or what to use

kaathy answered Sunday October 24 2004, 8:11 pm:
I would say you shouldn't dye ur hair at all because purple doesnt mix well with blonde and having chlorine shower can make your hair turn a different color than purple becuase of the chemical reaction it deals with the chemical in the temporary dye product.
