USUALLY those AIM-linked viruses are something called the Trojan Virus. It's actually very common right now. It can even eat through your protective walls of like an anti virus (Ie: Noton Anti-Virus) Also, these virusues are basically like Spyware which is also harmful to your computer. What you need to do is download a free spyware detector off the net. (Check goodgle for the one you like the best) Then it will show you how many viruses or trojans or spyware you have and what and where it's affecting it. There's also software you can download to remove it or you can purchase it at a place like Best Buy. That should take care of the problem. Another solution would be to have your computer reformatted. You could have someone come to your house or take it to a place, but that can be more costly though it would ensure a clean computer. Also, after you get rid of it. get an Anti-Virus protector on your computer (Like Norton Anti Virus). Good luck! :)
