Pap Smear

Question Posted Sunday October 17 2004, 10:05 pm

I recently had my pap smear and the results came back fine. My doctor said that the Pap smear was normal. I did not have the HPV, but this is were I'm confused, she told me to go back for another testing in 6 months because they found changes in the cells of my cervix.

Thank You So Much for any information that you can pass on to me.

well thats really what a pap smear is, looking for changes on your cells in your cervix. when the docor says to come back in 6 months, he meant that there is cells changing in your cervix and that might indecate cancer, but not all women have cancer from their cells changing.
i hope i helped! merry christmas!

PAP smears are testing for changes to your cervical cells, which could indicate cancer. Most women will experience 'changes' or needing a retest at some time - it does NOT mean you have cancer.

It's best to talk over any concerns with your doctor, and make sure you are prompt in your 6 month retest. Get involved and stay involved - you should know what sort of changes they are looking for, if your 'changes' are increasing or mutating, etc.

Good luck.

If you are concerned about this, you should call your doctor and talk to her about it. Ask her about it, what it could mean, why the scheduled another test.

Hey there. Well, don't be totally freaked out. That happened to my mom about a year ago and she's fine. It's often times as a women ages that her body develops "things" that weren't there when they were younger. That doesn't mean you have cancer or anything like that. Like for example some women have breast calcifications as they age, and that's totally fine so long as they don't move, grow, or cluster. The same is the case for you and your cervix. You may have something on it that they just wnat ot keep an eye on that MAYBE if it were to grow, increase, or cluster, it could then be potentially dangerous. It's good that they told you 6 months. They told my mom 1 month. And her case wasn't that severe she just got that area biopsied just for her own peace of mind. I would suggest MAYBE getting another opinion though just to calm yourself. My mom goes on the johnshopkins.com website for all this kind of stuff. I am sure you are going to be fine though. This happens to tons of people. Good luck and best wishes! :)

Note: Nope, I'm not a doctor. But my mom has or has had almost every medical problem you can think of so I guess I'm "aware". And you are more than welcome, I was glad I was able to maybe at least help in the slightest. I know how frustrating it can be..a lot of those doctors just want to get you in and out nothing more. Thanks for the nice note, and take care! :)

Hi.

All I can think is that there may have been something on them that could be potentially wrong, but they want to wait a little bit longer to check.

I'd consider going to another doctor, for a second opinion though, just in case.

Go to www.webmd.com and see if you can find anything there. Drop me a line in my inbox when you find out something, or have more questions. Good luck!
