FFR has been up for a couple of years now. It's not nearly as accurate an emulator as others, but for something that requires no downloading it's not a bad way to go. (I do hate the fact that not only are none of the songs on there DDR songs, but it gives you a miss if you hit an arrow when you don't need to. DDR 1st Mix, anyone?)
However, there are much better ways to play on the computer. First of all, you need an emulator. Stepmania is the best, in my opinion. You can go to www.stepmania.com for that.
Now you have an emulator. Some songs would be nice, yes? Go to www.ddruk.com and register. Once registered, you can go to the downloads section and download either a song at a time, or all the songs that have come off a single mix.
Now you need to take the songs you downloaded, and put them in a place where Stepmania will know where they are. This would be under the "Songs" folder in the Stepmania folder in your C:/Program Files. Go to the songs folder. Create another folder inside of it called "All Music". (It really doesn't matter what you name it, but that's what you'll be putting in it, unless you'd rather sort your music mix by mix. Then you need to create several folders, named "1st Mix", "2nd Mix", etc.) Go into the folder you just made. This is where Stepmania uploads songs from. Every folder you place into this one will be recognized as a song. When you download a song from DDRUK it will already be in a folder. This folder contains the .mp3, banner and background pictures, the stepfile, etc. Place a song folder inside the "All Music" folder you're already in. Congratulations, that's one song. Place in all the songs you've downloaded. Now run Stepmania. If the program comes up, a little note in the corner will tell you how many songs you've got. If it doesn't load, a prompt will come up telling you what you've done wrong.
Now, DDR songs are all well and good, but I prefer the newer In The Groove myself. You can go to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) to download some ITG stepfiles. They are longer and more fun.
Now at this point all you can use is the keyboard to play. If you want to hook up a dance pad you have for the PS2, you need to buy an adaptor. You can go to www.levelsix.com to find those. You can get a PS2 to Parallel Port adaptor for $5. But the parallel port may be taken by something like a printer, so it's easier to buy a PS2 to USB converter. Those are about $13, I believe.
I understand all this technobabble can get confusing, so IM me at fei3587 if you need to be walked through it. Enjoy, and keep on playin. - K' [ K3587's advice column | Ask K3587 A Question ]

QBillion answered Friday October 15 2004, 12:15 am: Actually, no, you can't play it online, but there are programs out there that you download and where you download the steps for the songs and you have to find the music yourself. It is called StepMania, and to play you can play with the arrow keys or if you have a PS2 - Computer converter (You can order those online) you can play with your mat, and the converters usually cost $15-$20, and they aren't available in stores, only online. But if you want to play a game like DDR, you can go to flashflashrevolution.com where you play with the arrow keys instead.
