What is the best kind of RAM to get for a computer. I have a AMD Athlon processor, 40G, 240 RAM computer. I want to put another strip of RAM into it because its been running slow. I think its the longest standard RAM you can get, but i dont know how many pins it is. Give me all the information you can about this please.

Pin type was for older systems, when you had to know if you needed 30, 60, or some other pin config for SIMMs. Current memory are DIMMs. SIMMs had to be installed in pairs. DIMMs do not. Being that you have an Athlon, you most likely need some form of DIMM. The exact type depends on your motherboard. If you go to Micron's site www.crucial.com they have great menus that can walk you through finding out exactly what memory you need to buy. You might need regular SDram, PC100, PC133, some form of DDR, or (god forbid) RAMBUS shit. But it is all dependent on the motherboard you are using. [ MFS's advice column | Ask MFS A Question ]

It seems you already have quite a large amount of RAM, so have you considered other reasons why your comp might be slow? For example have you checked for malwear, defraged and deleted temporary files recently [assuming you run Windows]? If not, try doing that first before buying more hardwear. SD RAM has three different sections(you can see where each section begins and ends by looking at the bottom of the RAM-they are divided by gaps) while DD RAM has 2. Most computers now are equiped with SD RAM, but you should check to see which you have before going out and buying some. [ TheGovernor's advice column | Ask TheGovernor A Question ]
